Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India accompanied by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani have unveiled the 'Statue of Unity' in honour of country's first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dedicated it to the Nation.
With a height of 182-meter the 'Statue of Unity' is built on Sandhu Bet Island on Narmada river and is termed as the tallest statue in the world with an estimate amount of Rs.2,389 crore, built to pay tribute to Patel who played a major role in integrating the princely states into the Indian Union after the partition of 1947.
The height of the statue is almost 29 meters taller than China's Spring Temple Buddha that is estimated to be 153 meters tall and is almost twice as high as the famous 93-meter Statue of Liberty in New York.
And to give national respect to the first Home Minister, three Indian Air Force planes flew past the Patel figure and created the Tri colour in the sky after Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated the giant statue.
Due to the inaugration of the statue, the Gujarat government expects the statue to boost tourism with an estimation of 15000 people visiting per day. Apart from the bronze figure, the place provides other major attractions including a 17-Km-long Valley of flowers, a Tent City for tourists near the statue and a museum dedicated to the life and times of Patel.
